Lost my mum

Hi I lost my mum two weeks ago, it's her funeral on Monday, she had cancer diagnosed April died Oct aged 67, I'm devasted! Her last few weeks were in hospice which was lovely for mum just what she wanted, I'm due back at work next weds how do I do it???

    Hello Wonder123 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat, 

    I just wanted to say we are thinking of you tonight as it is your mum's funeral tomorrow and I can imagine you are feeling devastated at the moment. Sincere condolences from the Cancer Chat team. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time and I know that tomorrow will be a truly emotional day to remember her. I am glad that your mum's last weeks were spent in the hospice where she wanted to be.  

    I can imagine it will be very hard for you to go back to work on Wednesday. See perhaps how you feel after tomorrow and if you think you may need a few days off for bereavement leave, perhaps you could try and talk to your manager about it or you could look into what your employer's bereavement leave policy is?

    I am sure many of our members will join me in sending you their deepest sympathy for tomorrow.

    Thankyou lucie, mums funeral was very hard, but I get that feeling people expect you to move on as she was very poorly for some time so it was better off mum has gone peacefully, anyway I have taken all my bereavement during mums last days, also last week planning funeral so no choice but to go back, I'll be fine I'll plod on and hold it in xx Thankyou for replying xx

    It is a tough and horrible time. I also struggled going back to work. I feared ppl wanting to talk about had happened. And even though it has been 8 months now I still avoid the topic with the majority of ppl at work until today.

    My boss knew what had been going on obviously, so before returning to work I asked him to give ppl a brief summary and to ask ppl to not come and talk to me about what had been going on. If just gave me the choice to decide when anf if I wanted to talk to anyone and helped returning to work. Until today ppl have respected my wishes. Perhaps something like this may help you return to work.
