Dad passed away today, not cared for properly at the end

My poor dad was suspected with blood cancer but scan over 2 was away. When he was half dead they took him in after being told better not there as madness 7 st by then. I begged at docs not to just leave him as 75. They didn't do ***. Finally when incoherent mess took him after being turned away once. I thought they could at least build him up. Found out not even drip or nutrition!!!! Not till after weekend. Anyway now about 4 wks he hates it they are not doing anything. He is very now physically and mentally destroyed given up.Finally biopsy results as they were thinking maybe do something.. Today my poor dad is dead. I know they are busy but if they had stepped in he wouldn't have got in such a state. When complained no nutrition they said cancer patients not hungry!!!! If he was anorexic he would have been sectioned. The whole time he just wanted to be home. Only one visitor till yesterday. Its pants xxx

  • Hi Wendz,

Firstly welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, and I'd like to send our condolences for your loss.

It sounds like you've been through an incredibly tough time over the last few weeks, with an awful lot of difficulties and frustrations. I'm sure everything must be feeling quite raw and with lots of different emotions, so take things slowly and take care of yourself.

We're always here for support and hopefully the forum can be helpful for you in some small way, even if it's just to write things down.

    Best wishes,

    Ben

  • I can relate to this. My step father died primarily because of DVT and Pulmonary Embolism on the lung. He became more confused and sounded bad with pneumonia infection. I even complained to the hospital (rest - bite centre) I am convinced they did not have the correct drugs of facilities in this place to help him along even though his Bladder cancer had metastasized to the left Adrenal gland at least. CT scans shows something on his spine but this was never biopsied. I bet they never used Anticoagulants or compression stockings despite having symptoms for this condition. He was at risk anyway of this ailment due to the cancer and mobility issues  spending the last 5 weeks of his life in hospital!. life is cruel! I wonder if he would have survived longer had he been at home! That though haunts me to this day! Sorry for your loss as well! A PALS enquiry is taking months! It is worth doing if you would need some closure or to highlight negliegence if applicable
