Helping my Dad with Grief

I really don't know how I can help my Dad my mum has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer which has spread to her lung. It looks very unlikely they will be able to treat her as she is so ill.  My parents have been married forb49 years and he is in pieces and I just don't know how to help him.

  • Hello Skewbald2003

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's obviously an incredibly difficult time for you all and it's understandable that your Dad is struggling.

I'd suggest getting in touch with your nearest Maggie's centre. they will be able to offer your Dad some support. Alternatively, give your Dad's GP surgery a call and ask about local services in your area that may be better able to help. It may be that you have a local hospice or counselling charity that are able to offer your Dad some support with what he is experiencing.

If you want to speak to one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • We have had a tiny glimmer of hope today the hospital had a MDT meeand they have agreed to do a biopsy to see if it is treatable and is it is they will commence chemotherapy.  I have just got everything crossed.
