Has anyone lost a love one due to Asbestos?

Has anybody lost a loved one to asbestos related cancer?

For as long as I can remember, my dad always said he wanted a post mortem after his passing as he knew he had been exposed 

Well, turns out he was right (he usually was)!

He passed just over 2 weeks ago after being told they could do no more for him. 7 weeks to the day from leaving hospital where he spent 5 weeks being treated for a fungal infection in his lung that he never even had.

The coroner said today they have opened an inquest today as the post mortem showed cancer only caused by asbestos. 

Dad always said he wanted the post mortem so we could claim compensation on his behalf. 

Where do we go now? How do we fight for this while grieving? I guess it's the only thing we can do for dad now - try to fulfill his wishes.

I'm just so confused by if all, my head is in a muddle and dont know where to turn.

    I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Sincere condolences from all of us at Cancer Chat. I think you are right to want to fight this in order to fulfill your dad's wishes. I thought I would mention one of our lovely members [@jules54]‍ whose husband also passed away from mesothelioma. She may have some advice for you on this question.     I'm in exactly the same position with my dad at the moment, he died on the 28th from lung cancer that is believed to have been caused by asbestos so we're awaiting contact from the coroner. My grandad also died of exactly the same thing last April and the case is still not finalised it could take up to three years before any money is received.

    Hi.

    Sorry for the late reply but just popped onto the forum and saw I had been mentioned by Moderator Lucie.

    Firstly, my condolences on the sad loss of your Dad. As Lucie mentioned I lost my husband to Asbestos related cancer (Mesothelioma).A slight difference in circumstances as he was diagnosed three years prior to his death following non recovery from a chest infection.  At the time we were referred by his medical consultant/welfare assistance to an organisation  called HASAG (they do have a website and were instrumental in guiding us through the help that was available).  They are a charity and did not charge.  Due to the cause of death he did have a Post Mortem (as this had to be confirmed) and there was an Inquest held (Which I did not have to attend but just answered a few questions via e-mail). I hope you can fulfil  your Dad's wishes and the Coroner'sOffice should be more than willing to help you with guidance too.  If you wish to respond to me I am happy to listen.  The forum was an enormous support during difficult days both during and after my hubby's loss.  Best regards  Jules54
