Loss of mum

Hi,

I'm new to this and slightly scared to post my feelings.
min Mother's Day this year, I lost my dear mum to a brain tumour and MEN1. I'm 22 & work in ICU 2 hours away from my family.
After losing my mum, I went straight back to work in COVID ICU and didn't give myself time to grieve. 8 months on and I'm really struggling, I can't smile anymore and feel like I have no one to talk too.

Does anyone have any advice to cope with grieving?

thank you all in advance,

Chloe :)

  • Hello Chloe

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mum earlier this year. Undoubtedly losing a much-loved parent is hard at any time. To do so during a global pandemic whilst caring for the sickest patients ... well, I think it's something that most of us can't even begin to imagine how difficult that must have been.

It really sounds as if you'd benefit from talking to someone about the loss of your Mum and I'd certainly recommend getting in touch with Cruse as a starting point. Alternatively you may want to speak to your Occupational Health team or I'm sure that there will be an EAP (employee assistance programme) that you can access for some counselling support.

I'd also encourage you to talk to your family as well. I'm sure that they wouldn't want you to feel that you're alone in dealing with this.

You have had a lot to deal with this year Chloe so please be gentle with yourself. You've made the first steps in recognising that you're struggling and reaching out for help. I know that there will be lots of people out there who will support you if you ask.

    Sending my best wishes,
