  • Same here . My husband passed a week ago.

He tried the chemo as he so wanted to stay .

it hastened his death and I miss him terribly x

  • Hi Whitey,

So sorry to read about your Mum's death and the painful grieving you are going through.

I'm afraid that person who made the decision to go ahead with the treatment was probably your Mum.  I hope it was an informed decision and that she was given all the fact to help her decide whether or not to undergo treatment.

I only have my own experience to go on, but I was given a very accurate description of the side effects of the harsh chemo regime I was being offered and told that the chances of me living more than a year after chemo were around 5% compared with about 1% without chemo. Like me, your Mum probably thought that she'd rather go down fighting with little hope, than have no treatment, with little pain but no hope. That is a very hard decision to make and I completely understand why so many people decide aganst treatment. Every case is different and every patient has to think long and hard about what is best for them and their family.

We have so many people on here complaining that their loved one wasn't offered any treatment at all because their condition was too advanced and others who find it hard to live with the fact that their loved one decided they'd rather have a dignified early death instead of going through painful treatment with little hope of success.

Cancer is a horrible medical condition and forces us all into impossible situations that we wouldn't wish on our worst enemies.

    Best wishes

    Dave
