Lost my uncle today

My uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in January. He opted for no treatment as he had never spent any days of his life in hospital  (he was even born at home). Sadly he died today, alone in Hospital, after only being admitted yesterday.

I am incredibly sad, both as his neice and a senior nurse, that his family could not be with him. No one should have to be alone.

Everyday I am going to work to care for patients who are having to die alone. It is so sad

  • Hi Baileyw2,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to read about your uncle. As you say these are such incredibly tough circumstances for so many people, especially those losing loved ones.

I can only imagine how tough it is for you not just to have lost someone close to you but to see others going through the same. Many people are making sacrifices that, while helping others, makes things very difficult for people.

I hope you're getting on OK with everything, and please know we're always here on this forum for support should you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
