Small cell carcinoma of the endometrium

Hi I am just looking for information from anyone who may have been through a similar situation of myself, my mum recently passed away very unexpectedly she was a healthy active 64 year old, she had been not completely her self for a few weeks had mentioned having ingestion at night that woke her up/breathless and not great appetite then she suffered constipation and was getting pains in stomach she went to the doctor on a Wednesday who sent her for a scan that came back clear the next day she started getting sick and got weaker by Sunday she was taken to A&E her kidneys had started to shut down and they found a mass in her abdomen they brought her to intensive care they put her on Dialysis but it didn't work in the end, they told us they thought she had a aggressive form of cancer couldn't do all the tests at this point as she was so weak, one week later she died(before lab results came back).

I have now received post mortem results back and it was metastatic small cell carcinoma of the endometrium, she was diagnosed with diabetes less than 3 months before her death and on the death certificate is listed as contributing but not related to the disease.

I am absolutely devastated I can't believe how quickly it happened so out of the blue I am still in shock, I still have to meet the doctor to discuss the results more but I am just looking for any information on this type of cancer and how quickly it spreads. Thank you in advance

  • Hello Rkerr,

Welcome to Cancer Chat and I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your mum in these circumstances. It seems this form is quite rare, we have some information on this page here if you look under Small Cell. I hope the doctor will be able to tell you more. I can imagine this is a difficult time for you so if you ever need support in coping, I'd recommend Cruse who could point you to support in your local area.

    All the best,
