  • Hello nikxy; sorry to learn that your mum died of lung cancer last year.

You may find it interesting to look at this website under "About Cancer"  Then look at "Lung Cancer" in the first column.  Then (another subtitle) "Risks and Causes of Cancer" followed by "Family History of Cancer".  It is very interesting in itself but as far as I can see that if your only "risk" is one family member aged 60 or over then this is very unlikely to be an inheritance factor.  Many families have had someone who had lung cancer and they don't go on to have further cases.  Again, to paraphrase, it is really only if you have a family history of young lung cancer sufferers that there may be a risk.  Please do read the article as it is very interesting - it was interesting to me as I had known nothing on this subject previously.

I cannot tell you whether or not you should want to be tested; that is your decision and I do not know your family history. If you have no symptoms I hope you will not worry yourself overmuch.

  • thank you annieliz I will definitely check the article out I appreciate your response xxxxx
