Unexpected loss - a beautiful life destroyed by leukaemia

My wife had lived with CLL ('indolent' leukaemia) for the last 12 years. She was always such a strong and positive woman who lived life to the full and so often simply for others around her.  Out of the blue and right at the start of retirement  she became poorly over just a few days and was quickly in hospital with a low blood count. At first she seemed to respond well but 24 hours later she was again very poorly and in another few hours we received the diagnosis of 'Richter's Shift'.   Just over five horrific days later she was gone.   Apparently this condition is quite rare and I can only wonder why.  Why did she have to be one of the small group that goes this way?  Why was there nothing that could help her?  If there is any research being done to further our undertsanding of how this horrible transformation is triggered it definitely is worthy of support.

  • Hi there .. just wanted to pass on my heart felt thoughts to you ... you must still be in shock ... there's no ryme or reason to these things ... I remember the shock of mum phoning me in the morning and at 5.20 that same day she died of a heart attack... there's so many raw emotions that go with loosing someone we love ... but I do believe they stay right here in our hearts ... we just can't see them ... there's no easy way of getting around those feelings they are there to help us move on but we have to feel them first and every one grief is different but the one thing that stays is missing them ... but when you feel really sad try bringing back a good or funny moment you shared when she was well ... do it until you push the sad last memories into the background ... I'm sure that's how she would like you to think of her ...

So sending you a big caring hug ... take care ... chrisie xx
