Just lost my Uncle to pancreatic cancer

Dear All,  my uncle died of pancreatic cancer earlier this evening. He was only 60. I knew it was terminal but have been quite unprepared for how the disease seemed to accelerate at the end. On Saturday he was able to get up and down the stairs. Today he died. He was suffering badly from the wasting disease cachexia - we think this is what took him in the end. So weak and tired, undernourished and I guess his poor body just failed him.  I was wondering if other people have observed that it is the cachexia that causes death before the cancer does? Is this a well understood complication - it seems to have been so poorly managed in my uncles case and I was wondering what other peoples experience of cachexia is. I had never heard of it until my uncle started suffering from it. Thanks.
