Syliva, I am so very sorry for your loss, I know how it feels, my husband passed away in October and I miss him so much, I too wish they could let us know they are ok. There are lots of people on here going through the same terrible time who will offer support. Sending love to you Debbie xxxxxx

Hi Jules ,glad your still going out and enjoying your walks and taking photos of the wild life . haven't seen my hedgehogs for a few weeks now I hope there cuddled up nice and warm some where under a pile of leaves. Have managed to take George out all week as I'm emailing you it's raining so will have to hope it stops so I can take him out later,it's sad when there is a death in the family especially with the virus as there is only so many that can go to the funeral ,so much sadness in the world at the moment. I haven't seen my friend's for a while I miss the company and chatting face to face it's not the same when you talk on the phone .I booked a private consultation with a specialist at a private hospital near me about my knee he told me to carry on with the cream which I should put on in a morning before I get up and take paracetamol instead of cocodamol if the pain gets unbearable I can have a cortisone injection will try doing that fingers crossed it it will ease it before I get out of bed ,not sure what's happening at weekend don't think the weather is good stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
To be honest I think it is only being able to get out each day for walks that makes the current situation more bearable. It is a bit of a struggle to keep my weight down as food is also a comfort.
Luckily so far have been out every day this week and th camera is a constant companion even if I am just walking along the streets. Very lucky to have a variety of parks locally so try and take a diferent route each day.
Already seeing houses decorated for the Christmas season ahead but I will not being doing anything much as should be away. I only get a real tree if I am entertaining so will save on this expense this year.
There have been a couple of chilly nights here so perhaps your hedgehogs have started their hibernation and hopefully you will see them again in the Spring.
I am lucky to still be seeing a few friends for one to one socially distanced walks and usually have a couple of catch ups a week. Another booked for tomorrow and then seeing daughter and family at the weekend. You are right that it is so much nicer face to face and somehow the conversation flows more easily too. If you are online chat or on the phone you always remember something once you say goodbye!
I am pleased you managed to get some advice re the knee pain and do hope that the recommendations will make it a little easier for you. My hip pain is variable but do fine the pain relief gel works quite well at the moment and I do not always need it every day.
Hope you had a good weekend and that the coming week goes well for you. Take care of yourself and fingers crossed the weather holds so you and George can enjoy your walks. Stay safe. Jules x
Hi Jules, just came back from a lovely walk with my son and his dog went to a place called spike island it's only 10 minutes drive from where we are it is at the side of the river Jersey and you can see the new Runcorn bridge it also has a canal that is full of swans ducks geese and pidgeons ,I took somebird food with me so they all had a good feed there is a cafe there that was closed years ago but was pleased to see it open again so we sat outside and had a coffee, came home and took George out for his walk luckily the weather is not bad today bit cold but at least it's dry.i know what you mean about decorations both my neibours have got decorations up I haven't had a tree up since hubby died it's not the same now especially since I haven't got grandchildren. think I am at my son's for Xmas with my daughter and her partner not sure if he wants me to stay over will see what's happening nearer the time.hope you enjoy time with your daughter and family it is nice to spend time with loved ones we are it tier 2 next week so I can have coffee with my friend but only outside very complicated with everyone in different tiers I'm hoping the weather ok at the weekend as I am having my windows done not all of them just my front ones and my pateo doors as well he is going to finish off Sunday .my knee hasn't been to bad this week what I have to do is take a cocodamol when I wake up about 6 rub some voltarol on my knee then do some leg stretches before I get out of bed at 7 I can't believe I have to do all that before I get up but I don't mind if it stops that awful pain not sure what I'm doing for Sunday lunch this week have a nice week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Your walk to spike island sounded lovely and nothing like a walk with family and nature to help how you feel. I really should put some wild bird food in my bag/pocket when I go on my walks. Often thing to do it and nearly always forget!!
Our road has put notices up stating that people could decorate outside for Christmas and that they will have a 'ringing of bells' on the doorstep on Christmas Eve as part of the community spirit which has grown throughout the covid lockdowns this year. As much as I love all things Christmas, as did my hubby, I do not decorate outiside (though have lights in my little back garden tree. I wont be at home for the bell ringing either so will have to let them know in case they think I am being miserable.
My daughter picked me up and the weekend and I spent time with them celebrating my eldest grandson'sbirthday. Special treat of a takeaway meal on Saturday night and then on the Sunday we had a lovely long walk which also let the boys and my son in law take out their large model off road cars for lots of fun and it created quite a lot of remarks as people walked past. I took loads of pictures to put on my social page and also had some family shots as we passed my camera around to capture some memories. We also had another walk taking their dog out. All this and then topped off with birthday cake before I headed home. I will see them on Thursday as am having boys and dog whilst daughter and son in law go to family funeral and then the next time will be for my Christmas break.
No rain here over the weekend so hope it was the same for you and that your windows/patio door replacement went will. Bet they look lovely. I had the ground floor windows done 5 years ago and hope to get the next level done next Spring(at least they will match then!!).
Glad you have a regime for helping with the knee pain and hope it works well for you. Better to start the day without pain if you can. Take care, stay safe and all the best for the coming week.
Best regards. Jules.x
Hi Jules, what a lovely thing to do with your neighbors ringing bells even though your not there are you staying at one of the kids over Xmas ? .I have just had George out it's cold but at least it's dry even though it's rained this morning just thinking what I can have for my dinner now .bet you had a lovely time at your grandsons birthday especially having a take away meal it's nice to do something different for a change it's nice to get out in the fresh air as well I don't know what I would do if I couldn't take George out for his walk. I have got a hospital phone call on Monday it's only for a check up to see how my COPD is doing ,then on the 16 of December I have to go to the hospital for a earing check it's good there keeping a check on people , I haven't had my windows done yet I got the dates wrong it's this weekend 5 th was so disappointed hope the weather is ok so they can make a start they are going to finish Sunday .I'm doing my own dinner this Sunday as my son is seeing his partner and my daughter and her partner are having Sunday lunch at a local pub haven't ventured into town yet or been on a bus even though I would love to im a bit apprehensive at the moment will see how it goes in a couple of weeks have a lovely week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
I think the Christmas Eve bell ringing idea is aimed at being nationwide and have heard about in on the tv and on social media too. Another round of well deserved thanks to all those serving our community on the front line and the scientists for bring some hope in the way of a vaccine.
I hope to be with my daughter, son in law and the two eldest grandchildren for the festive season as we have a social bubble. We all need to stay well and hope the weather allows easy travel! I also had a good weekend with them to enjoy the low key 12th birthday celebrations.
Foggy and frosty this morning and had to break the ice on the birds water baths. Still getting out most days but today I am waiting in for a delivery and then having a zoom meeting booked for this afternoon so apart from a trip to the letter box am based indoors. Always seems to make the day longer when I do not get out for a few hours. Back at the gym tomorrow and then hoping for a bit of sunshine to do some more photography.
I have steered clear of the main town shops as expect it is pretty busy with Christmas shoppers and glad all mine is done. My next trip in will probably be the week before Christmas as have to go for my Mammogram so hope to tie this in with a catch up with a friend (preferably over lunch if possible) and we can exchange our gifts too.
Stay safe and well. Jules x
Hi Jules just come in from taking George out nice and sunny this morning awful week though rain and dull most of the time ,we have had nothing but rain latley everyone you talk to is fed up with the weather and of course the covid I haven't been to my local town either as my friend has been ,she said it was packed with Christmas shoppers ,it's not worth the risk at the moment even though I would love to go and have a walk round the shops, I had my phone call from the hospital they just asked how I was doing with my COPD there going to send me some leaflets about the latest treatments and useful phone numbers,I'm at the hospital Wednesday for a hearing check my son is going to drop me off but I will get the bus back will be weird getting on a bus won't know what to do it's been that long since I was on one glad your still enjoying the gym our swimming baths is still not open I've got a feeling it won't open again as it what s modernising that means my friendship group will have to find somewhere else as well glad your meeting a friend for lunch it's nice to meet people for a catch up . hopefully my windows will be finished tomorrow Saturday they couldn't finish them last week as they had trouble fitting my front one last week by the time it was done it was going dark so they had to leave the rest,I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will all be done tomorrow,I have done most of my shopping now posted my cards just got to deliver my neighborhood now my son doing Sunday dinner this week . enjoy your week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Weather has been pretty gloomy here the past few days and though I have still been out for walks they cannot be quite so long and I miss being able to enjoy outside space. Still have grabbd sunny intervals when I can and the garden has seen a bit of attention despite the soggy lawn!! On the plus side it is milder so not so many layers needed. We go into Tier 3 today so Christmas meet up with my friend next week will be brief, conducted in the park instead over over a glass of something nice, so a little disappointing but it is what it is and we are grown up and sensible. I will still have to go into town on Monday as have my Mammogram appointment to attend.
Hope your hearing appointment goes well and glad the hospital has been in touch regarding possible treatments to help your COPD. We had some family news reach us from the Isle of Man during the last week and my brother in law's wife has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Unfortunately she had not bothered to attend her last mammogram appointment lwhich may have given an earlier warning. She found a lump and eventually went to the doctors when obviously she was fast tracked and the scan/biopsy shows two largish lumps . She is now awaiting to hear what treatment programme wil lbe followed with both chemo and masectomy possibilities but was good to know there was no spread to lymph glands so far.
Our gym continues as allowed to stay open and with great cleaning regimens and restricted numbers (and now masks being worn where possible) I am attending three times a week as before right up until 22nd. Certainly find it helps the joints to keep active and have not been having to take painkillers for the last few weeks which is great.
On Monday had my hair cut and highlights popped in to cheer myself up for the festive season and last week also joined in Christmas jumper day for a local homeless charity arranged through the gym.
I just now need to make arrangements to socially distance meet up with my son and family which we hope to do at the local farmer's market/artisan fair this weekend. They have a one way system in place and masks are worn with numbers restricted. The last one ran so well and everyone obeyed the rules which makes it good for everyone.Just have to cross fingers for the weather so we are not huddled under brollys.
Well it is just gone 8 a.m. so am going out to feed the birds and top up their water and then hope to get out before the promised rain arrives. Essential shopping to do for the last time before Christmas.
Hope you and the family can make the most of the Christmas period and spend some time together. Stay safe and take care. Jules x
Hi Jules the weather here pretty gloomy as well had a lot of rain my back lawn is sodden and quite muddy hope it drys out otherwise I will be walking in mud to feed the birds .had my appointment at the hospital just did a hearing test which was ok then I had to see the specialist he srinched my right ear so he could look at my ear drum don't need to go back now for 6 month,my son dropped me off so caught the bus into town went spec savers for batteries for my hearing aid had a walk round the market while I was there had a coffee then caught the bus back it felt lovely to do something normal for a change.tomorrow Saturday I am going to a Christmas market in a car park at a local pub with a few of my friend's hopefully everyone will social distance (but I have my doubts ) will have to see what happens.i know how you feel about having your haircut I had mine done last week with my colour added as well at least if we go into another lock down after Christmas we will look nice for it lol.hope you enjoyed the Christmas market with your son I love walking round the market s especially at this time of year unfortunately most have been cancelled where I live but it's the safest thing to do for now one of my friend's is undergoing treatment for breast cancer she had a sore breast for a few weeks went for a test and they found a lump on the other side of where it was sore so you never know till you get checked she has got to have 5 days of chemo then they think she will be clear I am going to ring her later to see how she is doing.have booked a Sunday dinner at our local pub think we are going to book for boxing Day as well not sure yet have a lovely week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Just thought I would send best wishes for Christmas before I join my 'bubble'. Unfortunately with the new Tier 4 I wont be able to see all the family but very grateful to be able to see some of them and not be on my own.
Have kept away from the shops other than to pick up bread/milk etc and even though I had to go into town for my Mammogram yesterday there were not many people about and social distancing.mask hopefully helped. A few doorstep drop-offs all managed safely and let's hope 2021 will bring brighter news.
Managed a four mile walk this morning; dry and cloudy but some photographs to check through and post on my social media page for those that cannot be out and about so easily. This helps keep me focussed and the foxes are still passing through the garden at night. When I got home I was surprised to find a blackbird eating the ivy berries. Have not had one in the garden for a very long time.
Stay safe, well and hope you enjoy time with your children over the festive period. Jules x

Hi Jules thought I would send you a quick e mail before Christmas is on us my brother in law and his wife are in tier 4as well at the moment I am in tier 2 so have done a bit of shopping only local think we are going into tier 3 next week, not looking good for all of us at the moment let's hope thing improve next year I am going to get a new TV in the new year as mine has broke fortunately my son had one in his bedroom so I'm using that also one of my bulbs bust in one of my wall lights so had to change that as well, put a reindeer in my window that I have had for years it's sentimental as we bought it years ago from Woolworths as I was putting it up the chair tipped up I went flying big broose on my arm and my leg ,it was only up 2days and the bulbs blew so now it doesn't work feel as if there is a gremlin in my electric hopefully things will be ok now as that is three things gone wrong going to take George out now have a lovely Christmas with your family stay safe hope next year is better than 2020 all the best for 2021 Syl x
Hi Syl,
Hope you had a good Christmas. Mine went well and caught up with both children and families, one in person and the other via zoom on the computer. Thank goodness for technology.
Sorry to hear that you took a tumble; so easily done and hope the pain soon clears up. Also hope the eletricity gremlins have departed and that your new TV will arrive in the New Year.
Now back to what has become normal routine with daily walks and housework. Will be glad when I can get back into the garden again when the weather improves. Already have spring bulbs sprouting but expect they will slow down now that it is beginning to get a little chilly. Some beautiful days over Christmas and we got out regularly to take the family dog on nice walks locally. We also were able to take the boys to an exciting drive through Christmas experience at Silverstone which ended with a Drive in Movie. It was great to forget the virus for a few days and enjoy the festivities.
Take care of yourself and wishing you all the very best for 2021..
Jules xx
Hi Jules. Glad Christmas is over spent it at my son's stayed over till boxing day few argument s including the dog it never stopped barking all day , getting on every ones nerves had a nice peace ful day on boxing Day on my own.we got together on the 27th as it was my hubby s birthday the kids did a buffet which was very nice glad it's over now let's hope 2021 is better for everyone .glad your enjoyed time with your family and had some nice walks it's been really cold here plenty of frosty days we even had a sprinkling of snow one day but it didn't last long .I am in tier 4 now so a lot of shops shut I am still going to the local supermarket but not much else not sure when I will get the vaccine think it will be a while yet before it's rolled out to us all it's not good news with this new vairent it seems to spread a lot quicker will have to wait and hope the vaccine works .at least we can look forward to spring and lighter nights coming once January is out of the way. must have been a nice experience for your grandsons at Silverstone and then a movie something to remember for them lovely sunny day here had George out it's cold but it's nice to get in the fresh air stay safe all the best for 2021 regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Happy New Year. First you joined us in Tier 4 and now we are back to a third lockdown. All very challenging for everyone concerned.
Glad you were able to spend time with the children on what would have been your hubby's birthday.
I spent a reflective day on the 3rd (6th anniversary of hubby's death) and was able to lay flowers at his final resting place. I then walked for a good few miles at the local 'lido' and grabbed a takeaway coffee/cake.
Not too nice here today with cloud and drizzle so have not been out other than in the garden to retrieve the night camera, fill the feeders and change the bird's bathing water. Glad to have a decent view from the armchair that's for sure. Will probably spend the afternoon doing online exercise class and catching up on some programmes I have missed recently..
My grandaughter will now have to be home schooled whilst my son and daughter in law work from home in shift patterns as before though her little brother can still attend Nursery three days per week so that helps a little. My daughter, son in law and my eldest two grandsons are in their routine. Daughter works in a school so is in for key workers children which means her youngest boy also going into his school. Eldest grandson has remote 'live' learning at home and my son in law still currently working as long as the parts keep coming in (he is admin/ estimator at a crash repair garage).
So back to my daily exercise slot for the foreseeable future and looking forward to better weather so can spend longer in the garden.
Take care of yourself and stay safe. Jules x
Hi Jules ,it's very confusing all these lock downs but it's for the safety of us all my daughter has been off on holiday this week but she hasn't been any wherever partner has been furloughed for to week has he had a message on his phone to isolate he must have been in contact with someone who has the virus, luckily he his ok with no symptoms up to now,it sounds as if things are very complicated at your end with grandchildren staying home going to nursery your kids working from home no wonder people get confused with all the rules .it's quite bad where I live at the moment so only going to my local coop at the moment the kids don't want me to go out at all but I don't want to stay in and not do my own shopping.a few of my neibours have had the vaccine but they are in there eighties think it will be a while yet before I get my jab there's a third vaccine now but it's not out till spring, you will never guess where I was Tuesday teatime in A&E at my local hospital having a tetanus jab it's a long story but I was bitten by one of my neighbors dogsi thought to myself this is a good start to the new year it actually bit me threw my coat and jumper but it drew blood even though my coat wasn't ripped , even the doctor couldn't understand it I'm on antibiotics but it seems ok now ,don't know what's wrong with me at the moment I seem very accident prone I'm waiting for the next thing to go wrong and I'm very wary of what I'm doing .any way enough negative for now (but that's me all over the kids are always on at me for being negative) the sun is out bit foggy this morning lol negative again so I'm taking George out for his walk have a lovely week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Looks as though we will have many more weeks of lockdown to see the NHS through the winter months and maybe beyond. I am now in a good routine of breakfast, walk, lunch, online exercise sometime in the afternoon interspersed with tv, books and online games. Hopefully will see my son and family sometime this week as part of the support bubble. Other than that purely doing occasional essential shop but the local parade of shops was almost deserted this morning. Very grateful to have my photography as a hobby to record my day to day sightings and the night camera is quite entertaining too.
Really shocked to read about the dog bite. Not nice at all I would imagine and hopefully the tetanus and antibiotics will keep you safe. Obviously a dog to be avoided or perhaps it should be muzzled. Assume it was reported.
A cold few days but apart from some frosty starts, no snow here. Today still feels chilly though it is a few degrees warmer; there is however a blustery wind so time out in the garden has been limited to clearing some dead leaves/stalks. Looking forward to Spring and already have a couple of buds forming on my daffs.
Spent this afternoon cooking some meals for the freezer and making soup which I really enjoy as a change for lunches/ Just a chicken to roast and then some ironing to do.
Fingers crossed this will be a better week for you. Take care. Jules x
Hi Jules ,glad your keeping busy with your walking and doing your on line games and exercises. not had George out much this week the weather has been awful plenty of rain and frost managed to take him out this morning even though it has been frosty it was nice to get out in the fresh air and do a bit of walking the dog bite is ok now it's got a scab on it now so should be ok now.i didn't report it as I think the dog thought I was going for it's owner,I have seen her going out with the dog since even though she has been told not to take him out her grandchildren have tried to get her some help but she has refused.i am only going to my local shops went to my local coop yesterday , hopefully will go to Asda tomorrow Saturday as I won't to get some flowers to take to the crem on Monday as it's my dad's birthday was going to go with my sister but we can't now as we are not in each others. bubble. one of the ladies from my friendship group rang this week to let me know one of the ladies had died she had breast Cancer shame she was a lovely lady will be sad when we meet up again as to of the group will be missing.my son made a lovely Sunday dinner last week not sure what is happening this Sunday have got a feeling I might be doing my own this week. my back garden isn't looking very good at the moment we have had that much rain just latley it's quite muddy I'm not sure if it will survive there doesn't seem to be much grass left will have to see what happens when it dries up.have a good week take care regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Well since my last reply I have spent a week indoors. Went down with a mild cold and did not want to take any risks. Thankfully all cleared up nicely but the weather continues to be miserable and not much fun for casual walking. My only outing was to do my 3mile walk round trip to do my essential shop for the next fortnight. Definitely gave me some exercise ha ha.
Glad your bite wound is healing okay; a very nasty experience and only hope your neighbour does listen eventually to her grandchildren as it sounds as though help is needed, if not for her then definitely in regard to her dog's actions.
Definitely sad when we learn of the loss of people we know and we cannot necessarily give the usual condolences personally.
Like you have not managed to do much out in the back garden other than usual quick tidy of bird feeders and topping up water baths. The two foxes continue to visit nightly and am enjoying sharing the night camera footage via social media wildlife clubs which have become a bit of a lifeline during these strange times.
All being well my son and the two little ones will be visiting for a couple of hours tomorrow and will look forward to that. Hope all went well with your Asda shop. I had no problem yesterday but then was at the supermarket before 8 a.m. so staff out-numbered shoppers. Monday has become my day of choice as never busy and feels a lot safer.
Well not much other news but best managing day to day. Take care and have a good week. Jules xx
Hi Jules ,like you not doing much at the moment the weather has been awful this week plenty of rain have only managed to take George out a few times a little village near me called Lymn has been flooded with a few of the houses under water ,also a few roads near my daughter under water as well luckily it didn't involve my daughter s home .at the moment it's sunshine here so I will be able to take George out after I have finished my cup of tea . I haven't heard anything about having the vaccine yet a few people I know have started to have it now but the majority are in there eighties but there saying now we could get it round about the middle of February will have to wait and see if it happens.my son has ordered a new TV for me hopefully it is being delivered this afternoon it's a 43inch one which isn't much bigger than the one that broke ,my son is coming mine tomorrow to set it all up for me,to be honest Jules I've got quite use to the one I've borrowed off him but the kids wanted me to get a new one it's only a small one so will have to get used to a big one again lol .I'm keeping in touch with a few of my friend s on the phone but it's not the same as face to face haven't seen my sister for ages I called round last week to drop a present off for her birthday even though it's not till February but didn't go inside ,think one of the kids is doing Sunday dinner this week the weather is nice Saturday more snow Sunday oh well we can't change the weather have a nice week stay safe regards Syl x
Hi Syl,
Quite a week so far weather-wise with a couple of inches of snow and lots of fun out on my walks watching kids/parents building snowmen and large snowballs to roll. Still managed to get out albeit I had to rely on a good pair of snow boots. With the freezing temperatures at night had to de-ice the birdbaths several times a day and top up the feeders as well as offering extra treats to the visiting foxes so have definitely been kept busy.
Did an essential shop locally today and will see my son and grandchildren for a couple of hours tomorrow so looking forward to that.
Hope your daughter's home managed to stay dry. Such terrible scenes from the flooding on the news.
Hope that your new TV is bringing lots of pleasure. I only have a 32inch which I have had about four years now after the previous one 'died' of old age ha ha. Dont watch too much tv these days as news is depressing and not much of interest though I do switch it on for wildlife programmes and usually the drama channel in the evenings. Use it more for the radio programmes if doing housework as seems easier to music!
I had roast chicken on Sunday but only with jacket potato as cannot be bothered doing all the trimmings for one. I went to the local butchers today so will have a session of making casseroles/meals for the freezer which will re-stock what I have used up recently.
Hoping for dry weather this weekend for the Big Garden Birdwatch but other than that and my walks no other plans. Thankful for the phone and computer to keep in touch with family and friends and doing all I can to keep myself safe so definitely limiting my contacts and time outside. Stay safe and warm. Take care. Jules x
