Dad passed away today

Hi everyone,

I have this evening had a phone call from my sister in Canada to say Dad passed away this morning. He had a really good day on Sunday but went downhill very rapidly today. I feel in one sense glad he is no longer suffering the pain of the cancer in his bones but also very sad that I never really got to know him as much as I would have liked and that I will never be able to talk tim again. We only met each other for the months holiday when we went to stay with him 23 years ago. I am also very proud to be his son.

My sister sounded very upset and said she will miss him very much. It's hard for me not being there to support my brothers and sisters, Brian.

  • Just wanted to add my condolences on reading of  your sad news of Dad's passing.  He put up an amazing fight and I can imagine you are finding it pretty hard not being able to be close to your Canadian siblings just now. Such mixed feelings at such times when there is a certain amount of relief that our loved ones are no longer suffering tinged with sadness that a part of our life is lost.  Keeping you and Mrs B in my thoughts. Your forum buddies are here for you always.  Jules x

  • Hi everyone,

Thank you Pauline, Jules, Loves to Sing, Max, and Lorraine. I am taken aback by the support shown to me on  here; thank you so much to everyone who has replied. It means a lot to me and Mrs B.

I forgot to add that when Mrs B remarked how alike we were and then that song played, although dad didnt say anything, we could both see he was very pleased by Mrs B remarks by the smile on his face. That was just one instance that sticks out, but there were several others where  we were shown to be so alike. Our handwritting was another case; neither of us being very readable and my son is the same. I told dad, I got into more trouble at school for my writting  than anything else and it turned out he had the same experiance too. People told us, I was more like my dad than any of my brothers or sisters which also pleased him and me.

When he was over here in the early stages of the last war, he used to tie my mothers apron string to the chair so when she stood up, the chair went with her. On our visit to Canada, he teased Mrs B all the time, especially as she is not very tall. She told him "Good things come in small packages", and he replied, "Yes, but so does dynamight". I will always remember the fun and laughter we shared during that holiday of a lifetime and I know those memories will help me over the next few weeks/months.

Thank you all once again, it means so much, Brian and not forgetting Mrs B.
