Welcome to this friendly forum. I lost my mother to cancer and my 93 year old father who lives in Canada is very ill and in a lot of pain as a result of prostate cancer. He has been fighting illness for the last few years and has proved the doctors wrong on so many occasions. As far as I know, just like your dad he has never once complained. I am so proud of him. I can understand you feel guilty but I suspect it may be more due to the fact there was nothing you could do medically speaking to stop the cancer taking him from you.
So please dont feel guilty, be proud of him instead for as you say, he was your hero, Brian.
