First Mother's Day for us and my mum without our nan

Hello everyone,

This is the first mothers day without our nan. The first mothers day for my mum without her mum. My sisters and I have done all we can to make this weekend extra special for her but tomorrow will be very hard.

We are hoping for some sunshine so we can sit in the garden next to the roses we've planted for our nan & to also place a butterfly plaque we recently purchased. We thought this would be a good idea so we had a beautiful spot in the garden for our beautiful nan.

We're taking each day as it comes but this forum has been a great help at the beginning, with my return to work and more. Thank you all for listening.

  • Hello Navitha2,

Sorry to hear your mum has sadly lost her own mum and that this will be your first Mother's Day without your nan. I do hope there will be sunshine nonetheless and that you will get to sit in the garden next to the roses you have planted. Such a lovely idea to have that beautiful spot in the garden in memory of your nan.

Your message gave me the idea of starting a thread I entitled  'Inspirational Mums' to celebrate all mums and show how they have touched our lives and made us who we are, not just physically but on so many different levels. We would love to hear your contribution - you can find the thread here if you don't mind sharing an anecdote or two about your mum and about your mum's mum.

I am so glad this forum has been a great help to you - feel free to come here anytime you need to talk to someone.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Lucie,

Thank you for your message. We had a lovely weekend in the end & it's nice to know that we have a special place for our nan & it's been a comfort for us & our mum to plant the roses, We're just waiting for them to grow now.

I've had a look at the link and would love to add a post on there. I have a picture I would also like to add in the hope people can take comfort in perhaps planting a tree or flowers in memory of a loved one.

    Thank you again. Nav.

  • Hello Nav,

I am so glad you had a lovely weekend in the end and that you now have this special place for your nan. What a lovely idea to plant a tree or flowers in memory of a loved one. Don't hesitate to add your picture in the Inspirational Mums thread. It's a thread to celebrate mums not just on Mother's Day but at anytime of the year.

I look forward to seeing your picture of the roses you planted. You are right, now that spring has sprung, it will inspire others to do the same and it will give them comfort to find a beautiful spot in the sun to remember and think of their loved ones.
