My mum is going to die

My mum was diognosed with breast cancer 5 years ago and the doctors have said she only has weeks to live I dont know what to do or think and I am scared. I am 15 so I am struggling to comprehend. I hope someday down the line I will be fine but as of right now I dont know how I will make it through.

  • Hello Fearghas1. I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. I lost my dad recently (am in my 20's) and I remember how it felt when we were told he was going to die. I felt as though I was looking through a pane of glass at everyone on the street just living their lives; as if I was so completely separate from them, living my nightmare. What I found really helpful was to stop my mind from thinking beyond the present day . I would focus on my breathing if my mind started to wander ahead. I also used to record all our conversations, even if it was silly mundane things, and take little candid pictures. The other thing is to sit down and say everything you want to say to your mum; there is nothing worse than having regrets later on. I take a lot of comfort from the fact I told my Dad a lot just how much he meant to me.
It's such a tough time for you, but just know you WILL get through this. I thought I'd be unable to even get out of bed when my beloved dad passed away and yet here I am just taking each day as it comes and allowing myself to feel whatever emotion happens to be there at any given time. Sending you my very best wishes.
