Support and advice, Dad is end of life head and neck cancer

Hi Everyone

i am new to this forum and I have posted because I am really struggling

my dad was told last week that he has a few months at best to live. Since being told he's just lost all fight and is now struggling with mobility and is in the hospital bed that was delivered a few days ago.
he in is absolute agony, the tumour is pressing on his brain and even morphene injections don't seem to help.

I really want to be his carer but I just can't do it as I'm a single mum of three

i can't bear the thought of him not being here but seeing him suffering so much is just heartbreaking. He is adamant he wants To die at home so we will make It happen.
how do you support someone who is in pain and who is now unable to speak due to no voice box and he can't move his jaw now.
I just wondered how people get through this? I only lost my Nan a couple of months ago she was buried recently.
I just can't see the wood for the trees and I don't want to look into the future too much because it's just a very sad memory

Thankyou

  • Hi stay strong, please don't wait until your dad is in

    pain

to give morphine, make sure he is topped up on his meds, as you don't want him to be in pain. As soon as my brother went on morphine driver he felt so much better, more relaxed, comfortable and not in pain with his head. It's difficult for u as your dad has no voicebox but pls ask the cancer / doctor nurses to come and assess him. Call them out as much as u need them. My brothers wish was to die at home too , just stay strong, hug him, kiss him, tell him u love him , take photos and just be there for him.
