Dad passed away how to cope

It's been a week tomorrow Tuesday 1st March ) my dad passed . He fought until the very end and beat the cancer. Never will I know where he got his strength, willpower and determination from. He has been such a true warrior and we are all so amazed and proud with how hard he fought and battled through so many treatments; ABVD, GDP, Brentuximab, Pembroluizmab, IGEV, Cami-T and finally high dose Mini-BEAM. How do people cope with this loss ? My dad tried everything he could and was so scared of dying , he was 54 , it makes it worse knowing how much he wanted to stay here .

  • Hi Cheryl,

I just wanted to offer you a very warm welcome to the forum as well as my deepest sympathies for your loss.

It sounds like your dad went through a lot on his journey but I'm sure a lot of his strength and courage came from the love and support he received from you and the rest of your family.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of losing a parent or loved one will be along soon to offer your their support and advice but whilst you wait, I hope this information we have on coping with grief will help. The charities Cruse Bereavement Care and Sue Ryder have a lot of information and resources that you may find useful at time as well.

I know I can't take away the pain but I hope it helps to know that you are not alone and that our community will always be here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • I'm so so sorry for your loss. 54 is so young. Just be assured your lovely dad passed knowing how much you loved him, and him you. Try to remember the good times not the sad ones. I know its incredibly tough. I was on my own with my dad in the final hours. And fhe way I get through the tough days is by telling myself how privileged I was. He was there for my first breath. And I was there for my darling dads last. And he would have passed knowing how loved he was. Sending a huge hug to you.
