Death of my father

Hello,

My father was in a lot of pain for years in his legs and back. His GP just prescribed him painkillers and said it was sciatica.

Jump forward to 5th February 2022. I called 111 and an ambulance took him to hospital. His pain was so bad. Two days later he was told he had around 2 weeks to live as he had cancer for years and it had spread all over and into his bones.

Why didn't his GP pick up on this?

My dad passed a couple of days ago at age 90. We are all in such shock about all of this.

  • Hi there ...

Firstly let me say I'm so sorry you lost your dad, as no matter how old they are, we still want them here with us ..

But just looking on the other side, my granddaughter was miss diagnosed for over a year, and on like your dad, being in a lot of pain and taken to A and E, a week before we were all going on a family holiday to Florida, was taken to London hospital where she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia... we all cancelled holiday as she started her agresive chemo, radio therapy ... 9 months later after her 18th birthday, she had a stem cell transplant...

She lost her beautiful hair, and only had a few weeks respite at home ... to loose her young life to cancer..  she was at collage, and had everything ahead of her ... she would have been 20  in a couple of weeks ...

I'm only saying this, to help you realise what your dad MAY have gone through at his grand age, would you really have wanted that for him ... so I'd say, it may have been kinder for him not to go through that and take heart in all those memories you did have for so many years ...

So be kind to your heart, and know the grief is hard for everyone , but shows how much we loved them .. sending a vertual hug... Chrissie x
