Gifts/Recommendations for someone about to start Chemo?

Hi everyone,

my partner is about to start chemo next week. She'll be taking the oral Capecitabine. I wondered if anybody had any tips/recommendations for things they've found helpful during this particular treatment? I've heard about the dry hand and feet that she might get for instance and thought about moisturise gloves/socks?

Anything that I can stock up on in advance to make the journey easier for her would be amazing! Thank you!

  • Hello HelloPan,

I hope everything will go well for your partner as she is about to start her capecitabine chemotherapy next week. It's so nice of you to want to give her the best possible support and I hope that you will hear from other members of our forum who have had this particular treatment and that they will have some good tips and suggestions for you.

It's a lovely idea to want to get her a little gift to help her through her treatment. Have a look at our Cancer Care collection - there is even a skin, body and hair care section. I hope this will give you some inspiration.

I will now let our members come and say hello and share some tips and gift ideas with you.

Very best of luck to your partner for next week. I hope everything goes smoothly for her.

    Best wishes,

  • I have bought gifts from an online company called  "Not Another Bunch of Flowers" it's a great company set up by a cancer survivor. Our daughters bought their dad a gift box filled with caring and fun stuff when he started his chemotherapy. They do lots of lovely gifts and have items which are "safe" to use on the skin when having chemotherapy. You can pick and make up a gift box to suit the recipient's needs and also take into account any "side effects" which may mean highly perfumed items are not suitable.
