Husbands stage 4 bowel cancer

Hi , husband got stage 3 bowel cancer in 2017, chemo, and op was, succesful  but lymph nodes were removed ( no colostomy) Did 3.5 years all clear, then came the awful news in October 20 it was back.Had SABR treatment in Feb21, Apparently the tumor didnt change , but became dormant, regular checks , doctors then found another 1  in June in the same place as the previous ones, both dormant at the time. SABR caused damaged to his kidney so had to have a stent fitted.Last week he has had a port fitted from his neck into his chest ready for the next set of heavy duty sessions of chemo., now stage 4.

He is so up beat and positive, im struggling with the emotional side, hes very down the line " Cancer . you have 2 choices, you either survive or you dont , youve just got to get on with it " his way of coping i guess.

Me well, im struggling with trying to carry on with things as normally as possible with his diagnosis , knowing that 1 day it will take him.

  • Hi Jak and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear your husband's cancer has progressed to stage 4 but I and the rest of the community will have everything crossed that the chemo he's due to have will keep the cancer at bay for a long time to come.

Receiving this news must have been very tough and it's completely understandable to feel the way you are right now so be kind to yourself and make sure you take some time to process your emotions and give yourself a little TLC. I hope this information we have on looking after yourself will help with this but hopefully some of our members who have been in this position with their loved ones will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

If you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then you're very welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Best wishes to you both at this challenging time,
