Prostate cancer hormone resistance after one injection

A family member in their late 70's has been diagnosed with prostate cancer spread to bones.
Initial psa of 700, a course of hormone therapy tablets was prescribed followed by the first hormone therapy injection. The next injection was due 6months later. Blood tests 2 months after initial injection showed their psa dropped to 39.
all seemed good ..

fast foward another month so 3 months after initial injection and we have discovered their psa level is back up to 700 which is obviously indicative of hormone therapy resistance. (Discovered due to recurrence of symptoms similar to initial diagnosis) .. We are currently waiting for an app with urology and oncology to figure out the next treatment option but this is extremely worrying. We thought we had at least 2 years before this happened... just wondering has anyone else come across hormone therapy resistance so early??? And if so what was the outcome? Did another type of hormone therpay injection work instead?

we are feeling very disheartened..

  • Hello Amyk556

I'm sorry to hear about your relative's diagnosis and that the hormone medication hasn't been able to keep his PSA under control. I know that Billygoatt has shared his story with you on another post and that you were able to take some positivity away from his experiences.

Try to remain positive and wait to hear what other management options the Consultants will suggest. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for that appointment. In the meantime, if you want to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I hope that he has some positive news soon.

    Best wishes,
