Mum is really struggling with chemo side effects.

Hi,

My mum got diagnosed with cancer the day of her mums/my grandmas funeral. Since then shes for 3 rounds of chemo in the hope to shrink the tumour before surgery. She has just had her 2nd round and has been admitted to hospital vomiting blood. None of the antisickness are working even the IV ones they have been giving in hospital, she is so weak and frail and it upset me so much to see her like this... I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and worried sick... does anyone else have similar story regarding the sickness to try put my mind at ease? She is saying she cant do another round of it and feels like she is dying and that is my worst fear I need her here for me and the baby. Xx

  • Hello Anonymous211991

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis, particularly at such a difficult time for you all as a family. It must have been really difficult.

I hope that by now the hospital team has been able to get a handle on your Mum's side effects and that she is more comfortable. It's understandable that she has said she can't face another round and it's something that we hear many people post about here on the forum when they have had particularly bad side effects. I would imagine now that your Mum's oncology team will talk with her and suggest changing the dose for her next round. This may give her some reassurance about continuing on with the treatment.

We know that watching a loved one go through cancer treatment can be very difficult for family and friends. It often can help to talk to someone and I wonder if you'd find it helpful to chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information, support, and reassurance that they can. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things improve for your Mum.

    Best wishes,
