My partner can't stand the smell of food

I'm sorry if this has been asked already but I'm new here. My partner is day three into his chemo and he is having an immense aversion to the smell of food. Like he runs out to dry heave. The smell of my cooking is not that bad, I promise.

Does anyone have any suggestions please? Because I need to eat and have tried less smelling foods (like, not a curry etc) but it is any smell that turns his stomach.

Has anyone else been through this as a partner or the person with cancer? Any advice?

Thanks, trying to hold it together here <3

  • Hello Hayley_B

I'm sorry to hear that your partner is struggling with his sense of smell and nausea. Some people do struggle with their sense of smell becoming heightened and in turn, this increases any nausea that they may be experiencing.

Please do speak to his chemo team for some advice about the best way to manage these side effects. Hopefully, they may be able to give him something to help settle things.

In the meantime perhaps it may be a case of your partner being in a different part of the house whilst you're cooking, keeping doors shut and windows open to aid ventilation. It's obviously quite a difficult situation but hopefully, things will settle for him over the coming days.

    Best wishes,
