  • Hello Mumsdying

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation and how unwell your Mum is. It sounds like an incredibly difficult time and it's understandable that you may be feeling anxious and worried about things.

The Dr's may have given a prognosis of a few months based on the information they have to hand about your Mum's overall general health and the disease progression. It's impossible for anyone to say how long a few months may actually be. some people will pass away more quickly and some people may live longer. The important thing is that however long Mum is with you is that she is comfortable and that you both have the support in place that you need.

It's good to hear that she has a care package in place and that you're waiting on more support to be arranged so that she can be discharged from the hospital. It may be that as Mum's health declines that the local palliative care team or district nurses become involved and this is something that her GP can advise on if arrangements haven't already been put in place.

You may find it helpful to chat things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will try to offer any information, advice, and support that they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. You may also find it helpful to read through some of this information about what to expect on our website.

    Best wishes,
