Hi all

My mums recently been diagnosed with Anal cancer, after months of going back and forth from various drs as it had been misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids then anal fissure so its bern at least 9 months.  Shes had her PET scan which were awaiting the results, i just feel at such a loss, i dont know what to expect, shes pretty poorlie understandably shes nrly 74 and i just didnt know if anyone had any experience with this and could just offer some experiences of there own.  The waiting is starting to get to me.

  • Hello Amill82

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that it's taken so long for her to finally have some answers. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and worried about what the next steps may be for her.

We do have some information on our website about anal cancer which may help answer some of your questions but I'd suggest giving our team of nurses a call as well. I'm sure that they will be able to help with information, advice, and support ahead of your Mum's next appointment with the specialist. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that she doesn't have to wait too long for the results of her PET scan and that the team is able to improve things for her.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Hey there, I got misdiagnosed then left due to covid and it's rules so only got diagnosed in July, Anal cancer is really rare, so we one of few, I’ve struggled to find chats on it anywhere, I too started with bloodloos etx I got diagnosed stage 4 nodules 2 metastasis 0.
I had radical Chemoradiotherapy of 2.5 months daily and chemos of 8 hours a time 3 times with a bottle attached twice to drip into me over 4 days, I had a colostomy bag due to the ulcer I also had there, I had 2 5cm tumours and a 5cm mass. Stage 4 being the worst, the condition itself once treated isn't so bad, it's one of the few cancers that can be COMPLETELY cured with treatment, it feel devastating but it's not a death sentence like so many with other devastating cancers. If you want to ask anything ANYTHING please feel free, there’s no shame here xxx
