metastatic melanoma in liver

My husband was diagnosed with ocular melanoma last Christmas and had an unulceation in January, his routine scans were clear in March but the last lot he had have shown 5 lesions ranging from 1 -2.5cm in his liver, a biopsy is being done in 2 weeks time and his oncologist at local hospital has done a referral to a specialist, we are devastated. Is there anything I can do to support him through this as I'm lost on what is best. We are playing the waiting game at present. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

I'm sorry you are both going through this worry.

You may already be aware, if your husband was diagnosed last year, of a charity called Ocumel. They have lots of information and an online support group for ocular melanoma patients https://www.ocumeluk.org/

There are also a couple of other support groups for ocular melanoma that may be helpful for you to chat to others in the same position and get advice and support. If you don't mind I will send you a friend request so that I can pass the information by private message. Meanwhile, try not to think the worst. Immunotherapy and targeted therapy (if he is BRAF positive) are working wonders with most patients so there is reason to be optimistic that your husband will respond to the treatment.

Good luck and please let us know how your husband gets on,

Angie (Stage 3 superficial spreading melanoma patient since 2009)
