Post Whipple Op - Chemo, not eating

Hi

First time I've posted here and just after advice from people who may have been in a similar situation.

My mother in law was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in April 21 and had the whipple operation in May. She recovered well from the op once she was out of hospital and then started 'belt and braces' chemo (this was how it was described by the oncologist) in July.

She managed to mostly get on top of her eating and taking her creon tablets before she started her chemo. I'm not sure what type of chemo she had first but she had one infusion a week for 3 weeks and then had to take tablets every day and then she would have a break for a week. During the first round of this chemo she developed a really bad rash over her whole body which she ended up getting hospitalised for and then they stopped the chemo.  During this chemo she also struggled with eating as she had no appetite and had to eat every time she had to take the chemo tablets.

They then moved her to folfirinox chemo and she has this once a fortnight. She had one round but then developed an infection and was in real pain so was hospitalised again and the stopped chemo. Theyve now started chemo again at 70%, she's had two rounds but she's hardly eating anything. We are trying to get food down her but she just can't face it.

She had now been taking into hospital again today as she is dehydrated so they need to give her fluids. But no one seems to be addressing the problem about her not eating. They don't even weigh her when she goes into hospital. She's lost about three stone since her op.

Who should we be talking to? Should we pushing for her to have a feeding tube? When should we be worried about her lack of eating.

Its really hard as they will only let one person go into the hospital with her and that's my sister in law as she is her main caregiver and is available to take her into hospital when she needs to etc, so we are all having to relay the questions to ask every time she goes in.

Should we be suggesting she stops the chemo for a time to get to a position where she is eating again and strong enough for chemo, all this stopping starting doesn't seem very effective either??!!

Sorry for rambling, just at a real loss as to what to do but it feels like she's not going to make it through 6 months of chemo at this rate if she doesn't start getting some nutrition inside her!

Any help and advice appreciated:confused:
