Staying overnight

Hi my husband is starting chemo and radiation therapy for tonsil cancer soon, the nurse at our local hospital said he will have to stay overnight at the cancer hospital after his first chemo has this happened to anyone else???
I suffer with anxiety and being away from him is one of my triggers! I'm really struggling with the thought of this and if I cannot visit due to covid!
and yes I know my husband has cancer and if he needs to be in hospital he should be no where in any leaflets or websites can I find anyone who has had to do this.

  • Hello Emma and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

As this treatment can be quite tough, overnight stays are a possibility, as mentioned in this article we have about chemoradiotherapy. I hope knowing this will help ease your anxiety but if you would like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in this situation will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime, I just want to pass on my best wishes to your husband for the start of his treatment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
