  • Hello Mybrotherskeeper and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am so sorry to hear your brother has been diagnosed with bowel cancer at such a young age and is finding it hard to keep anything down at the moment. It might be worth asking his medical team for their suggestions if you haven't done so already? They may have had experience in the past of other patients who have also had trouble keeping any food down. I can completely understand why you would want him to be stronger for chemotherapy and as you mentioned you wanted some ideas on smoothies for example you could make for him, I thought I would share with you our page on high calorie drinks which contains helpful tips on how to make your own smoothies or milkshakes.

I hope that you will also get some valuable tips from some of our members who have been in a similar position before and who may have also prepared foods for a loved one to try and make them stronger before chemotherapy. Your brother's medical team may also have some useful advice to give you on this.

Feel free also to give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to talk things through with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that your brother regains some strength quickly and that he can start his treatment soon.

    Best wishes,
