Struggling to cope with father’s diagnosis

My father has recieved a cancer diagnosis.  He is 89 and has esophageal and stomach cancer and we have been told he will recieve palliative care.  I am 50 and an only child and I am struggling.  The Dr's have said that they are hoping to fit a stent so that he can eat a modified diet but they have 't yet confirmed if radiotherapy will happen.  We lost my mum to Dementia a few months ago after a 7 year battle with it and 40+ years of mental health problems.  My dad doesn't cope well and I've done most everything for them for years and I feel like I've had my stomach ripped out.  I don't know how to cope with this.  Thank you for letting me join.

  • I'm sorry you and you father are going through this

Its just so hard isn't it. My dad has been diagnosed with lining of the lung cancer, he's dramatically declined since the diagnosis in Oct 2020. He's had an operation to remove half of one of his lungs and he's starting immunotherapy treatment but its making him worse

    I hope you are ok.

He doesn't seem to be getting any help, support or advice. I don't know what to do. He needs pain relief. The paracetamol just aren't enough.
