Oral cancer

Hello. Just looking if anyone has any experience. My Dad was only very recently diagnosed with cancer - tongue, mouth, jaw and neck. The cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes but due to the size of the mess and how aggressive it is not suitable to remove through surgery. He has been offered chemotherapy in the hope to prolong. He is at the minute too weak due to losing weight rapidly and the pain he is experiencing. We were told chemo would prolong life for maybe 2-4 months. Not sure if the chemo would be too much with all of the symptoms to gain such little time in which he may be poorly and unable to enjoy his time left

  • Hello teesbro

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis and that at the moment he's too unwell for any treatment. It's obviously an incredibly difficult time for you all.

I wanted to let you know that if you'd like to talk things through with someone you're welcome to call our team of nurses. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. Alternatively, you can call the Macmillan support line who are also open at weekends.

    Best wishes,
