Mouth Blisters

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum. I care for my Mum having palliative cancer treatment. It's intensive and hard going for her, keeping her spirits up is proving difficult. We have been in and out the hospital after 3 out 4 treatments. This is such a horrible disease. Mum now has blisters on her tongue, we've tried cold drinks, straws, ice lollies, getting her to eat anything substantial is a challenge. Anyone with ideas on how they tackled this problem please? Thanks very much

  • Hi,

My mum had mouth cancer and struggled eating just wondering if you wanted to try Fortisip they are meal replacement drinks and we got them prescribed for free. I would speak to your doctor and ask xx

  • Hi,

Oh no so sorry to hear. I haven't heard of them. Will definitely find out. Thanks for your kind help. It seems to be one thing after another at the moment.  Hope you're okay xx

  • When Mum got diagnosed the doctor said you can just buy them from Tesco it's like a normal drink. I found out that wasn't correct . They can be found online but very costly so definitely mention to the hospital about them don't go buying them as honestly for 4 I think I used to pay around £15 as we was so deserperate to keep Mum going.
hope this info helped and I know a lot to take in and they are probably telling you lots of info and appointments after appointments.

if the wait is a while for the drinks you can go on www.nutridrinks.co.uk

  • Would your mum be able to take a quick swirl of like warm salty water for a couple of days it helped with my canker sores' basically the same thing you're mum has I suspect, because of her immune system is very low,
  • Hi,

I did suggest to Mum try a saltwater solution as she doesn't like the mouthwash they gave her. It seems to be helping as less sore now.  Sometimes the old wives recipes are the best   thanks for your help

  • Hi,

We asked our doctor and she has prescribed some so should get them tomorrow.  I think my head will explode with all the information they give you!  I think they should tell you what you're allowed through your doctors or hospital. Agreed hospital appointments are never ending, just hope the chemo works and gives us more time with Mum.  Not easy seeing a loved one suffer, but always try to see a lighter side to keep her upbeat.  Hope all is well with you.  Thanks again for your kind help xx
