Tracey

Can anyone help me please? My Husband had a consultation to treat his cancer last week and was recommended Cetuximab and Encorafenib but he was told that he could not have these drugs via the NHS - the only way he could have them would be privately which is very expensive.

My Husbands cancer started in the pancreas, he had the whipple procedure which was successful he now has small spots on his lungs which these drugs can help control.

I have researched the use of these drugs and they are available for colorectal cancers - so why are they not available for this type of cancer?

Thank you for any advice. Tracey

  • Hello Tracey

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis and the news about recommended treatment earlier this week. It's obviously an incredibly difficult time for you and to hear that the drugs the Consultant is recommending aren't available on the NHS must be incredibly frustrating.

The process around licensing and approving drugs for treating different types of cancer can be complicated and if I'm honest not one that I fully understand myself. Can I suggest that you give our team of nurses a call next week. They will be much better replaced to answer your question and offer any advice and support that they can. If you would like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that the situation improves and that your husband is able to access appropriate treatment.

    Best wishes,
