Mum with cervical cancer and bad kidneys

Hello, my names chloe I'm 25 from Leicester. My mum,52 got diagnosed with cervical cancer 2 days before Christmas 2020 after pestering the doctors for months and months. She has finished her treatment and was told to wait 3 months, is this normal? We're currently in the 3 months waiting period and she's had a lot of trouble going toilet. Shes had multiple a&e and doctor visits but noone thought to properly check her out. This past Tuesday she went a&e and got told her kidneys are starting to fail. I know the NHS is amazing but I just feel they could've done more. Not sure what I'm expecting from posting.. anyway, thanks.

  • Hi Chloe

I’m sorry to hear about your mum. I’ve had cervical cancer, but didn’t suffer from kidney issues so I can’t offer advice on that..but what I can say is that it is normal to wait 3 months after treatment for a scan if she had the standard treatment of chemo, radiotherapy and brachytherapy. This is because the radiotherapy continues to work in the body after treatment has ended, and doing an earlier scan could give an inconclusive result. I hope that her kidney issue can be treated now it’s been identified.
