Not sure I can do this again

My husband was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2018. He had chemoradiotherapy which resulted in a complete response and the tumour went. He has been all-clear on scans/tests up to February 2021. We both had Covid over Christmas and he had pneumonia which left him with a partially collapsed lung. After 2 x-rays, the GP and oncologist referred him for a CT scan. He had the scan on Monday and today the oncologist's secretary phoned and said he wanted to talk to us about an onward referral. The call isn't until next week and she wouldn't give any other information.

I am so worried that the cancer has spread to his lungs. I feel so sick with it all and the waiting for results isn't helping. I cared for him throughout his treatment, which hit him really hard and I found it so hard to cope and be the one to have to shoulder everything. I feel so guilty but I don't think I can do this again. I am so exhausted.

  • Hello Tiredbunny

I'm so sorry to hear that you're waiting for some results following your husband's recent CT scan. It's understandable that you're feeling as you are. I think most people would be.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses ahead of the Consultant appointment next week. I'm sure they will be able to offer some advice and support and to help you think about some of the questions you may want to ask during the appointment. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Keep in touch Tiredbunny. Let us know how you get on next week. We'll be thinking of you both.

    Best wishes,
