Nausea

My husband who has advanced stomach cancer is really struggling at the minute with nausea and vomiting

He hasn't had any chemo for over 2 weeks it has had to be put back 3 times.

Gp has tried him with different antisickness meds but strangely they were making him sick

He has a syringe driver now with anti sickness meds in it so far so good.

So he's 3rd cycle has been put  back again.

I'm so so anxious I feel the longer he doesn't have chemo will it grow?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

  • Hi Busby666

I know we messaged briefly the other evening but I just wanted to post to say that I'm really pleased to hear that the driver is helping keep your husband's nausea under control. Hopefully, he'll be able to recover now and be well enough to continue with treatment.

Don't forget what I said that you can call our nurses to talk things through with them. I'm sure they will be able to give you some support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Keep in touch.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

Thankyou for message things have changed for us unfortunately.

Ian was still been sick he has had to go into hospital for a stent.

It was all a massive shock they got he's ct results they showed a blockage that's why he was been sick .

The cancer has progressed I'm devastated. The cancer nurse specialist which don't get me wrong she's brilliant but because it was Friday afternoon I felt like it was a rushed phone call.

Basically I wanted to know about would he still have chemo after the stent and she just said he won't and left it like that.

I'm really scared that they don't give him other treatment I'm so confused and worried sick.

He is in hospital now but can't have the procedure till earliest Monday latest Wednesday because obviously they don't have surgeons to do it over weekend which is so wrong other people like nurses have to work weekends.

The procedure itself only takes an hour I'm heartbroken seeing him like this.

I feel useless just don't know what to do.

  • Hello Busby666,

its a horrible place you find yourselves currently in,with more challenges than you would have hoped for.The Stent should have a quick response and then it will be as case of regaining the strength that has been lost. Nothing is set in stone, and neither are the words that would be used, at this stage everything can change and lead to different outcomes, l am sorry but you cannot get past the waiting time and the not knowing, which is so,so difficult and a draining presence that steals your peace and calmness. But try to hold on to the possibilities of positive change. For some at the darkest moments a light is being lit and can grow from a small glimmer to illuminate your forward progression ,l know this because l have been there.

l hope the coming week brings you both a little relief from the great weight you are having to shoulder,

                  go gently,

                                 David
