Breast Cancer Letrozole

Hi, my mum was diagnosed Oct 2020 with a 3cm breast lump, lymph noves clear and was hormone receptive so started taking Letrozole with the hope of it reducing the tumour, we returned to oncologist in the Dec, no change in size and await a catch up phone call on 7 May with conversation regarding possibility or radiotherapy.

In theory this is a possibility but mum has quite a history in that she has recovered from sclc which was diagnosed in 2013, she now also has recurrent bladder cancer and has treatment via turbt and had an evar stent fitted three years ago due to aortic aneurysm, mum is 78 and has poor mobility cannot manage a flight of stairs and due to chemo and radiotherapy for sclc her breathing is on the copd scale.  Our concern is side effects of radiotherapy or can mum stay on letrozole as in keeping the cancer at bay?  Mum lives with me and my family so I am her main carer, So if any one has any advice of similar experience or wisdom, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  • Hello y60sam and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Your mum has been on quite a journey over the last 8 years and it's completely understandable why you're concerned about the next step. Only the specialists can say which option will be the best for your mum but if you'd like to talk things through with our team of cancer nurses whilst you wait, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except tomorrow as it's a bank holiday) between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope some of our members who have found themselves on a similar pathway will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but you're welcome to join in on other discussions by using the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above.

Wishing you and your mum all the best for the 7th y60sam.

    Kind regards,
