Sigmoid Cancer / Chemo

Hi,

My reason for writing this post is to get some advise,

My dad was diagnosed with Sigmoid Cancer stage 2 (colon) in November last year, he had operation in feb all went really well he was doing amazing. He's oncologist offered him 4 rounds of chemo as a preventive which has wasn't too happy about but accepted anyway, he would have his IV chemo in hospital on a Friday then take tablets Capecitabine for 2 weeks after.

He's now wanting to stop chemo tablets altogether, they make him feel so poorly, my dad isn't ever ill or rarely moans about feeling unwell but this chemo has knocked him for six it seems like he's had every side effects possible. On the first round he stopped the tablets on the 5th day as he felt so unwell (could not move from the sofa) now on the second round of chemo day 5 again he is refusing to take the tablets

After stopping tablets the first time (oncologist told him to) he had an appointment which she said she would lower tables & IV by 25% but he feels the same

Any advise with be amazing

Thank you :)

  • Hello MC2405

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis and that he's struggling with the treatment. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about things.

I'd encourage your Dad to speak to his Oncologist about how he's feeling and the symptoms that he's experiencing. It may be that they are able to make some suggestions for how the side effects can be better handled.

Alternatively, you're most welcome to give our team of nurses a call and chat things through with them. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice or support that they can.

I hope that he starts to feel better soon.

    Best wishes,
