What to eat to prepare for Chemo

Hello

My dad (aged 74) has recently been diagnosed with secondary pancreatic cancer.  As you can imagine this has been devastating news and I am trying to deal with it by throwing myself into researching the best ways to try to help him beat this.

He is due to start chemotherapy in 3 weeks time and needs to get himself as fit and healthy as possible before then.  However, he feels sick a lot of the time and no longer finds any pleasure in eating so it's difficult to get him to eat.  Can anyone recommend some simple nutritious meals or maybe some homemade smoothies that would be good to build him up in advance of the chemo and also to continue with during the treatment?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me.

  • Welcome to the forum Jacqster although I'm sorry about your dad's diagnosis. This must be a very tough time for you all.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their tips and advice to you soon but whilst you wait I just wanted to share some information that I hope will help. The first is about diet changes and pancreatic cancer and the second is a section we have to help with eating and drinking difficulties.

I hope these will come in handy but if you'd like to speak with our cancer nurses about this, you're welcome to give them a call next week on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing your dad all the best with his chemo in a few weeks time.

    Kind regards,
