What to do next/at home care/palliative care/recommend

Hi everyone,  this is all new territory to us but we were wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction with potentially the last few months of life of a close relative please. Chairities / home care (housework and medical /personal care) / hospices? Where is best to look please? Are some services free? Any help appreciated - we are also able to pay.

We want to get this right for obvious reasons x

  • Hello

Six weeks ago we were put in the same position when we found out that my mum had terminal bowel cancer.  Completely thrown it at the deep end.

The hospital arranged for "Hospice at Home" to come out 3 times a day to dress and change my mum as she was bedbound.  They also had evening cover a couple of times a week.  We also had MArie Curie come out twice over the six weeks to provide evening cover - they were brilliant but we would have liked more help from them and they couldnt give us anymore time. The district nurses are also on hand for any personal or medical care.

We looked into 24 hr private care too but when we looked at the options we werent keen on having someone living with us for 24 hours as we enjoyed the quiet moments between carers (but each to their own)

In my experience the nurses were all excellent bt it was an ongoing battle to get people to come out and you will definitly have to pester them otherwise i think you get forgotten.

Good luck and let me know if you need any more information xxxx

    Its rea

There is help there but in my opinion you have to continually ask for it.

  • Thank you will have a look at hospice at home  and Marie curie x

A day of research on this today

And sorry about your mummy too x
