Move mum back to UK

My mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer.  She is 76 and lives in Spain with my dad. They still have to do further tests to see how widespread it is and what (if any) treatment can go ahead.

Parents moved to Spain about 10 years ago, and dad had a brain hemorrage 2 years ago, so although recovered, may not be able to provide mum all the support she might need.

Once we know what treatment and  COVID restrictions allow. Can we move her back to the UK for treatment so that we can look after her? Would we just need to re- register her with the gp?

  • Hello ATSOC

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. It's obviously a very difficult time for you all and it's understandable that you want to do all that you can to help both your parents.

I'm sure that it would be very helpful if she is able to bring home her medical notes or copies of the notes so that tests and procedures don't necessarily need to be repeated. Once she is home and settled get in touch with her GP to make an appointment. It may be that you're able to give the local surgery a call before to get some advice from them and so they know that your Mum will need to be seen as soon as possible.

I hope that the rest of the investigations brings some good news and that the move back to the UK goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
