My dad went for a brain scan following a memory test for dementia. He had years of failing memory which lead up to that, he looked after my mam who had Ms for 30 years and as soon as she passed his memory went. The brain scan showed a tumour.. He was in the RVI in Newcastle 2 days later for surgery on 23rd Jan 2021. He was very agitated and confused in hospital. We were told it was grade 4 and they gave him 12 months, he also has a tumour on his kidney. The dementia means he has forgotten his diagnosis and operation, he now loves with me and it settled which is good. The weeks following his op he improved and is quite cheerful, main deterioration is dementia symptoms at this point. He can't have chemo or radiotherapy as he gets frequent water infections and chemo would be too dangerous for him. It was heartbreaking seeing the realisation on his face that there was nothing that could be done for him, but the next day he had forgotten again. It's 7 weeks since his op and he is doing well, I just don't know how quickly that could change but I'm hoping he has some happy months still to come before any deterioration.
