RChop please help with any experiences

Can anyone help me please my mum , I am caring for 24/7 she is 81 and last October she was diagnosed with non hodkins lymphoma since then she has had 6 cycles of RChop the last of the 17th Febuary.

Previous cycles she has had blood transfusions, suffered confusion and has extremely low or 0 white blood cells.

The last rchop was a lower dose to try and keep her out of hospital , the problem is she has no temperature, good bowel movement is drinking plenty still not a great appetite but is eating little bits but she is still confused but it's more imagination or story telling she knows who I am , the day of the week all of the kind of things that would be asked.

I have spoken to her oncologist nurse she said to keep any eye on her , she has had a ct scan on her brain 3 weeks ago no sign of anything.

I'm not sure what to do , I'm really worried that she will not come out of this that her mind cant cope.

Any advice or help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hello Libby231,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat!  I am so sorry to hear that your mum has suffered confusion as a result of R-Chop. I hope that this will get better soon. If it persists, do mention it again to her medical team. It's good that the CT scan on her brain didn't flag anything. All you can do really is keep a close eye on her and if you notice anything you are concerned about, make sure you bring it up as you have been doing already.

There is information on our website on this page on R-CHOP which I hope you'll find helpful. Other members of this forum has also been in a similar position and have also had R-CHOP treatment or have looked after a loved one who has been through this before. I have done a little search on our forum for past relevant threads which might be of interest to you and found this one by [@Rolowales]‍ whose mum has also been diagnosed with lymphoma and also received six rounds of R-CHOP. It could be a great person for you to talk to and exchange notes with!

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you have any questions. Their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if you feel the need to talk things through with them at any time.

I hope your mum feels better soon and that this confusion she has been experiencing subsides.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
