Brain Mets - Advice?

Hey, my mother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer approx 4 years ago which had spread to her bones. She had 6 rounds of chemotherapy and has had targeted therapy ever since. On her 6 monthly scans it appeared the cancer hadnt spread further but within the last few weeks she really hasn't been herself so we spoke to the hospital who did a scan and it turns out the cancer has spread to her brain.
She's currently doing 5 days of WBRT but I'm worried for what the future looks like. She's struggling through the radiotherapy with sickness, she can barley walk, she needs assistance to do everything and we are trying our best to care for her but it is really really hard work. I know that sounds very selfish. We have a young child to take care of and full time jobs and it's just hard to manage everything.
I'm worried for what the future looks like, as my husband seems to believe after her radiotherapy she will go back to normal. I can't help but feel this is the beginning of the end and I'm really really nervous for the future. My heart is breaking.

Is it possible to have brain mets and go on to live for years? Is there anybody who can share their experiences with me to prepare me for what is to come?

Thank you xx
