Nasopharyngeal cancer - private opinion? Advice please

My father who is 75 has just been diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal cancer and we have now discovered it has spread into some lymph nodes and bone (top of the spine). They can (will) not operate. I'm desperate for some advice as he he has been misdiagnosed due to Covid and they think it has been growing for 9-12 months. He is now in agonising pain constantly and seems to be deteriorating by the day. He is due to start chemo in 10 days (3 weeks after diagnosis) and I am desprate for advice.

I am prepared to take him to see someone privately in the hope that they can treat him earlier or offer more treatment plab options. Does anyone have any advice on where to start?

The NHS team have been fantastic but I just want to explore all avenues and curb the pain until he can start treatment.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello natalie0301

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis and the news that the team feels surgery isn't an option for him.

We do have some information on our website about getting a second opinion which is a good starting place.

You might also want to give our team of nurses a call to chat things through with them. They may be able to offer some advice and information that helps. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
