Mums palliative care

Hi everyone
I posted on here a while back for some information regarding my mum. So since then she's had palliative radiotherapy and the tumour she has left in her lung ( it was originally ovarian back in 2006 that turned up in her lungs last year ) 3 tumors , after surgery there is 1 left . It seemed to had shrunk which was obviously amazing news . But recently she's been having back pain , and itching sensation in her chest and a hoarse voice don't days. She's also extremely breathless when she makes the smallest of movements which we thought may be after effects of having covid back in June . But her consultant today said her symptoms may indicate the tumour may have started growing again . The news we could think of at the moment . Me and my sister care for my mum everyday we are very close so as you can imagine it's very tough . Has anybody had a family member go through something similar ? I guess I'm kind of looking for info on life expectancy as I'm always to scared to ask but I feel like it's time to ask these difficult questions . Any input would be appreciated .
Thankyou x

  • Hello emma85xo,

I'm sorry to hear about your mum's situation, which I'm sure is difficult for all of you.

I can appreciate why you'd be fearful of asking people who cared for loved ones with cancer about life expectancy but please remember that we're all in this together, and when it comes to caring for those we love, there are no wrong questions. Hopefully, other carers will be along shortly to offer advice.

In the meantime, I wanted to mention that it is important that while caring for your mum, you take care of yourself as well, and with this in mind, I wanted to leave this page from our website with tips for people who are carers, to read more please click here. I hope this can help a little,

With best wishes to you and your family,
