  • Hello Stac001 and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about your step dad and that there is no longer any treatment available to him and that his legs and feet are swelling. I can understand why you would want to get some clarity on what the doctor meant when he said it was just part of the process and you are totally right when you say that you would rather your children would not google things and try to find answers this way as Dr Google is famously unreliable. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to ask the doctor if he or she would not mind being more specific as to what they mean by it "just being part of the process" as you have children who ask questions and you would like to be able to talk to them about it.

You could also try and ask our nurses whether they could tell you more about what this might all mean. They have a free helpline you can ring Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm 0808 800 4040 so don't hesitate to give them a call if you have any questions.

I hope that your step dad keeps on defying his prognosis and that he can be with you for as long as possible.

    Best wishes,
