Hello Busby666,
please bear in mind l am not a medical professional and the detailed nuances may escape me in my reply.Advanced cancer is where it has progressed ,travelling up through the grades and has possibly spread to other organs from its original location, and is potentially treatable.l suffered stage 4 bowel cancer that spread to the liver, that surgery and radio/chemotherapy cured and l am cancer free 7 years on from the original surgery.
Terminal cancer would be where there has been further progression, possibly bad siting of the tumours meaning there is no possibility of surgery or treatment for a cure leading to being free of cancer,. It may also be that the chemo/radio cannot eradicate it,or you are unable to have them due to existing medical conditions, but that any treatment would be focused upon managing the existing cancer to alleviate pain, prevent or slow growth, spread and hopefully reduction, with the aim of giving a better quality of life and extended lifespan, effectively meaning you have to live with cancer present but under some degree of control
this is a very broadbrush reply and each individual will present uniquely./Hopefully you will get a more considered response from one of the excellent nurses that post on here,or alternately you could ring the helpline and speak to one of them, but they are not available at the weekends, 0808 800 4040.
This is an area where angels may hesitate to tread, with it being such a sensitive subject, but l am aware that you will have a good reason for asking and a long delay might cause anxiety, hence my response with the weekend upon us,, but please be sure to make further enquiries from the medical professionals,
David
