Stem cell transplant - recovery

Hi all.

My wife has mantle cell lymphoma and had an autologous stem cell transplant three and a half weeks ago. She is still in the hospital and is spiking a temperature most of the time. She is still tired and drowsy and a bit sick from time to time. She doesn't seem to be getting better and I am getting worried. Has anyone had any experience of how long it takes? We were told 3 weeks before she went in and she looks unlikely to be out for a while. Any thoughts really welcome. Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that your wife's recovery from her stem cell transplant isn't going as smoothly as you both might have hoped. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious and worried particularly as visiting isn't a possibility at the moment.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses? Sometimes it can help to ease worries by talking them through with someone and I'm sure that our team will be able to offer you some support. If you'd like to talk to them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that things settle and improve for her soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello ... My sister had her stem cell transplant at the beginning of January and she is still in hospital . She was very poorly and in ICU for over 3 weeks . She picked up and infection in they think her kidney. Anyway she is now back in her room , very, very tired most of the time . We were told that she could be in hospital for up to 3 months . I hope you wife starts to feel a bit like her old self again soon . It's an awful long recovery process , she will get there .
